Fall is in full swing in Maryland and it’s time to get out and enjoy some tasty fall treats. A favorite featured at many of the local farms is apple cider donuts. Apple cider is added to the batter, and the baked or fried donuts are then dipped in cinnamon sugar. Here are four places in Maryland where you can pick up some apple cider donuts for your clan.
Gaver Farm
Gaver Farm is a one stop for fall fun and apple cider everything. Get fresh hot donuts on the weekends or pick them up in the bakery during the week. You can also get fresh picked apples and apple cider slushies! Gaver Farm also hosts a fall festival complete with hayrides, corn maze, a petting zoo and small carnival rides. Admission to the festival is $9 on weekdays and $13.50 on the weekends, kids under two are free.
Heyser Farms
Located in Silver Spring, Heyser Farms is centrally located for people in Howard and Montgomery counties. Fresh donuts are only made on Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings. Bring the kids for a tour of the apple cider press and visit the on-site farmers market. Heads up- the donuts sell out fast, so get there early!
Weber’s Farm
In you live near Towson, you can find fresh apple cider donuts at Weber’s Farm at a great price. Weber’s sells a dozen of the tase treats for just $8 and you can even order online for convenience. While you’re there, check out the farmers market, pick your own fruit fields and fun farm activities.
Miller Farms
Located in southern Maryland is Miller Farms, boasting one of the best selections of freshly-baked donuts in the state. Choose from more than 24 flavors, including seasonal flavors like banana and pumpkin, yeast raised donuts (weekends only) and of course, apple cider donuts. You can also buy local fresh produce, meats, cheeses and more at the farm’s market.
Many of the farms close in bad weather, so be sure to call ahead before you make the trip!
